Family Background

My name is Chen yu-ju, born in a sound, sweet family. My family lives in harmony and tends to express concern and love to one another. My parents have taught me in a strict way since my childhood. They award me for the good and punish me for the bad respectively. On the one hand, when I do good deeds, they encourage and praise me in public. Some parents never do this for their children so I think it is worth mentioning. On the other hand, if I behave badly, they always clarify the matter first, explain the wrong, and punish me reasonably. My father plans in advance and has things done step by step; therefore, he works efficiently and is capable of solving problems of family. My mother, who is considerate, offers me warmness and teaches me with patience.

“A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in silver settings” is what my parents remind me. They tell me that speaking plays an important part in connection of people. How to speak properly is the lesson I have to learn throughout my life.

I learned English early for my parents made me watch foreign cartoons and let me join the English drama during kindergarten, which brought about my interest in English when I was a child. Moreover, I have a grandmother educated under Japanese, who pays much attention to herself. She wants me to be a gentle lady, too; actually, she is a model in my heart. School Life

Owing to my early interest in English, I studied at Department of Applied Foreign Language in National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School. These two years, not only could I concentrate on my favorite language, with teachers’ instruction, but I also regained my interest in math though I once disliked it. English was originally my favorite subject; with the help of teachers and the passion I have had for learning language, I’m glad that my effort paid off. I passed General English Proficiency Test for the intermediate level in my second year in high school.

As for the club I attended, I joined the English ABC club as soon as I entered the senior high school in order to improve my English level. We had to learn vocabularies of a chapter every week. Sometimes we also took exams and used the software of English contest. At first, I really confused whether my English ability would make progress or not. Finally, I even attended the word competition in school for class, which I got achievement from it.

I have had the experience of serving as vice bulletin board designer since my junior high. Since I was interested in comic painting, teachers tended to encourage me to serve for class. As a bulletin board designer, I had to remove my eyesight from comic characters to the huge board, and learn the duty division and collaboration. In the past, the comic I created was my own works, while designing post was cooperation. During the process, I was taught the concept of giving the right to others. No matter how great I could draw, I couldn’t do every thing on my own; collaboration could reduce some odds and ends, make me focus on the whole aspect, and represent my confidence to classmates as well. In addition, by recording the process of meeting in class, I gradually learned the skills of writing official papers. I really appreciated that my teachers in junior placed me in a proper position, made me do my utmost in interest and hobbies and finally made progress mentally and physically. Through the previous experience, I could serve as bulletin board designer at ease. Besides, such as speaking on the platform, calculating the budget of materials, and the various duty assignment of different topics, are the sections I still have to improve.

People who work besides me  know my reliability. After all, I believe that trust is the root of all relationship. Furthermore, I form a habit of keeping diary. As I consider that it can make me question my daily behavior. And it’s true that moderate introspection can give me direction in life.

      I am studying in St. Mary’s School of Nursing which is a vocational high school in I-Lan.  I have been studying for nursing since three years ago.  In my first grade, I attended to English oral competition and got the third place.  Besides, I still took this competition the next year and got the same result, the third.  One thing I want to mention is I joined the special club, which is an organization to help and concern the elder in a community.  That was also a wonderful and unforgetful experience in my high school life.

      I have a lot of different hobbies, for example, I joined English Conversation Club, Guitar Club, and POP Club.  They are all my favorite activities which helped me gain so many skills from this kind of learning.  For instance, how to create a beautiful poster, how Americans use their daily life slang, and how to play an instrument of guitar to my unhappy crying friends, etc.

Giving Reasons

“Take these wings” is such a beautiful song that I was deeply moved on hearing it at the chorus.

“I found a sparrow…Her life I knew would soon be at an end….she said, ‘My friend, take these wings and learn to fly….’” In the first paragraph, the sparrow which is dying wants to devote what she possesses to the human. I admire her nobility for it’s difficult for us to give even we know that we can’t be the owner. As for the refrain, “‘Take these eyes and learn to see, all the things so dear to me. Take these songs…fill your voice with all the joys of spring….’” Although she is on the verge of dying, she still tries to teach people to treasure what we hold. Tiny as eyes or songs, we should appreciate their existence. Moreover, we should cherish everything we have and make the best use of it as well. “I found another sparrow…whose life had just begun….I smiled at him and said, ‘My son, take these wings….’” The spirit of rebirth and the chain of love really appeal to me. I realize that there is always laughter following behind the sorrow, which inspires me to stay joyful as suffering the pain.

Third, although there isn't direct association between caffeine and heart disease, survey that it causes irregular heartbeat is well-known. As a business administration student, I was trying to figure out why Michael Williams, a music store selling compact discs, collapsed. Judging from some information, I concluded three main reasons. Firstly, there have been two large music stores in the neighborhood, which are 3 miles away from the store. It is very competitive that in a small place are three music stores. Secondly, according to the graph of residents’ age, most of people are middle-aged, while the CDs Michael Williams sold are almost hip-hop and rock, which hasn't actually caught on with mainstream customers. Thirdly, the business hours are against the time crowds walk by. Learned from the survey, few people walk past the store from 12p.m. to 6p.m., when the store only opened, from 1p.m. to 5p.m., and that’s why the traffic was low. Due to these elements, I could understand why Michael Williams ended up closing his store and that if we want to run a business, it’s better to investigate the qualities of the inhabitants in advance.

Marriage is one of the most important affairs in one’s life, and so am I. There are three main reasons result in my decision. To begin with, if a couple get married, plenty of laws which regulate property, behavior as well as children would pop up to guarantee their rights. Owing to the stress society gives, I think I will feel like getting married when I am an adult. It doesn’t mean that the dream of lovers can’t be taken into practice if they don’t get married. Living in a modern generation, there's no surprise that some students no longer want to wear uniform. In my opinion, I approve the idea that students go to school in uniforms. Firstly, if every student wears uniforms to school, it seems order and it is convenient for school to manage. If everyone wears the same, the rules of clothes can be regulated easily. Secondly, if students of each school dress in different uniforms, people can identify them by first sight. Every time an activity is held, the school authority can learn students' identifications and know which one is their student. Lastly, wearing uniforms can prevent students from spending too much time in choosing their clothes to school every day. While some think that it can not reach everyone's requirement, I consider that one can make little change on their clothes in circumstances of not being punished. Because of these facts, it is self-evident that it's better to wear uniforms to school.

Nowadays, one of the most hotly debated issues is whether the death sentence is a reasonable form of punishment or not. As far as I am concerned, I support to use it as a punishment. Also, the original may get nervous about the new ones and feel uneasy with them. Additionally, a factory never runs without giving out environmental pollution. For instance, smoke emissions may affect humans’ health and change climate; polluted water may arouse the epidemic or diseases; industrial noise may bring about permanent hearing problems of people. Judging from these negative effects, I am opposed to opening a factory in there.

As a business administration student, I was trying to figure out why Michael Williams, a music store selling compact discs, collapsed. Judging from some information, I concluded three main reasons. Firstly, there have been two large music stores in the neighborhood, which are 3 miles away from the store. It is very competitive that in a small place are three music stores. Secondly, according to the graph of residents’ age, most of people are middle-aged, while the CDs Michael Williams sold are almost hip-hop and rock, which hasn't actually caught on with mainstream customers. Thirdly, the business hours opposites with the time crowds walk by. Learned from the survey, few people walk past the store from 12p.m. to 6p.m., when the store only opened, from 1p.m. to 5p.m., and that’s why the traffic was low. Due to these elements, I could understand why Michael Williams ended up closing his store and that if we want to run a business, it’s better to investigate the qualities of the inhabitants in advance.

Marriage is one of the most important affairs in one’s life, and so do I. there are three main reasons result in my decision. To begin with, if a couple get married, plenty of laws which regulate property, behavior as well as children would pop up to guarantee their rights. Therefore, getting married not only ensures my rights but also brings me the sense of security. Next, due to the traditional concept of society, the older one grows, the less valuable one becomes. Owing to the stress society gives, I think I will feel like getting married when I am an adult. Last but not least, if two people get married, I consider it will be more easily for them to carry out their plans. It doesn’t mean that the dream of lovers can’t be taken into practice if they don’t get married. While with the promise of marriage, both of them will be more thoughtful and have more strength to make their dream come true. According as what I mention above, I’d like go into marriage one day.

Living in a modern generation, there’s no surprise that some students no longer wanted to wear uniform. In my opinion, I approved the idea that students went to school in uniforms. Secondly, if students of each school dressed in different uniforms, people could identify them by first sight. Every time an activity was held, the school authority could learn students’ identifications and knew which one was their student. Lastly, wearing uniforms could prevent students from spending too much time in choosing their clothes to school every day. While some thought that it couldn’t reach everyone’s requirement, I considered that one could make little change on their clothes in circumstances of not being punished. I admire her nobility for it’s difficult for us to give even we know that we can’t be the owner. As for the refrain, “‘Take these eyes and learn to see, all the things so dear to me. Take these songs…fill your voice with all the joys of spring….’” Although she is on the verge of dying, she still tries to teach people to treasure what we hold. Tiny as eyes or songs, we should appreciate their existence. We students had to study at school at night and take turns throwing the leftover. That night was my turn to do this task, and whoever was responsible for this job had to go down the dark, vastly long corridor and trees alone. Just after my several steps to go back, I heard a slight sound which was like something falling on the ground. Suddenly, I noticed that there was an object in front of me, just four meters away. Since all lights had turned off, I couldn’t recognize what it was. Additionally, I was too afraid to get close to the unknown stuff. What with the appearance of the moon, what with my eyes’ adaptation to the darkness; gradually, the identity of the figure finally came out.

It was a pigeon whose chest was rotten with a large amount of blood pouring out from it. As the pigeon fell from the air to the ground, I stiffly moved my sight up and was surprised to find the suspect easily, partly  because it smack stood on the branch which was above its prey, and partly because there was only one animal, a squirrel, which had a bloody mouse looking down from trees.

I was stunned into silence as I saw the squirrel’s eyes staring sharply at the moribund, shivering pigeon, and some sort of fright took the place of my favor to gentle squirrels.

　A dream I have had was a touching one. It was about me and a boy who was the most popular boy in my class.

　One day, my classmates and I went to the department store, and so did he. While I was shopping with my friends, he talked to me again and again. Although I admired him, I didn’t want to have a love affair. Later, he came to chat with me when I was alone. During the conversation, I escaped for the excuse of going to the restroom and didn’t go back. After walking alone for a while, I still went back for discomfort. However, he was not there anymore. With regret, I searched all the floors but didn’t see him. Several hours later, I finally found him at the top floor. On seeing me, he rushed to me and held me tight. I felt like saying something but only to find my tears rolling down my cheek. Not until the moment did I realize that I liked him very much.
